Toot Toot

Okay, one last thing since I'm tooting my horn.

In my last post I showed you the bag I made for Michele, my cousin.  Well, then I was asked to make another bag for Michele's daughter, Madeline.  I made this larger Tulip bag for her but then we found out she doesn't carry a purse anymore.  Darn those finicky teenagers.  BUT, I had asked about cousin Brian's daughter, Abby and it turns out Abby not only carries a purse but has legs all the way up to there so these long shoulder straps will most likely work better for her.

Why am I not worried they will see this post?  Seriously?  They are teenagers.  I'm not tweeting about the lost "Jackass" tapes or on TMZ so I highly doubt these girls are looking for my blog.  And aside from that they are lovely, intelligent girls involved in sports and school.  They have bigger fish to fry than Aunt Leigh and her quilting blog.

I wish you could see this bag in person because the photos absolutely do not do it justice.  But I don't want you all tracking up my hardwood floors so this will have to do.

Abby's Tulip Bag and Matching Wallet

Really Michele, Celery and Lavendar?

I have wanted to post this for a month now but I had to wait until my Aunt Linda gave this gift to my cousin, Michele.  Well, Michele now has her bag so I can post my blog.

My aunt asked me to sew a bag for my cousin's birthday and all she wanted was for the colors to be celery and lavender.  I decided to toss in the wallet since it I seem to be addicted to the wallets right now.  You need to strike while the iron is hot, right?

I am a lot like a guy in many ways including seeing colors:  Celery = green and lavender = purple.  So, I had to enlisted Sharon's help and she picked fabulous colors.  If you need Sharon to help you pick colors go see her at Fabric Boutique in Las Vegas, NV.

Anyway, Linda gave Michele the bag and Michele loves it so I'm, "Happy, Happy, Happy."

Oh Poo!!

Oh Pooo:

I know the month is not over yet but it may as well be for me and my hopes of finishing my wallets.  I am coming up on some major deadlines at work and I have been working a lot of extra hours to make sure I'm more than ready.

My job is getting in the way of my life!!!  But it is just temporary and my job lets me afford all my hobbies so I'll just shut up about it already.

BUT.....

I attended a "Sew - In" at my local quilt shop, "Fabric Boutique," this weekend and I am very excited about the things I actually DID complete.  Or in the case of two of the items, almost completed.

The first is a Tulip bag for my BFF's ten year old Diva, Miss Alexia.  I have also purchased the fabrics to make her two besties matching bags.  The heart fabric will be the same for all three but the zebra will be pink and then purple for the other girls.  These are for Christmas 2014.  Yes, I start this early.

The next is a zippered notion case.  I have had my eye on this for some time and if it works out the way I hope I will make more for my knitting ladies.  Now that I have worked out the kinks on one for myself I have some ideas to make it a little less, "Infuriating," while sewing.  So, I will give it another try and see what happens.

Finally, I promised Jetta a princess quilt and I finally found the right fabrics.  AND, Lance was willing to trade for the long arm quilting so now all I have to do is finish the binding.  I do all my bindings by hand.  Not because I'm anything special but because that is how I was taught (Shout out to Cher) and I don't know how to do it any other way.  I may actually get the book and Jetta's quilt bound at tomorrow night's Friendship Stars meeting.

I am still going to try to finish the wallets but I give it only a 10% chance of success.

Thanks for checking in.  Let me know what you think.

Février

When I was in high school I took French for four years.  Why?  Hell if I know.  I was probably like all the other girls in that small town looking to make even the most mundane things romantic.  If I had known then, what I know now.....well, you understand.  I live in the southwestern part of the United States so now I do not speak French and instead of diamonds for my birthday last month I asked for, Rosetta Stone - Espanol.  Most of my friends are Hispanic and I'd like to be able to make sure they aren't talking about me behind my back (but literally in front of my face).  If you apply this logic then I'll be learning Vietnamese next.  Man, I'm going to be busy.  Why did I start this line of blathering?  Ah yes, Favrier.  Every time I write the word February I always say, "Favrier" in my head.  Maybe that's why it is one of the few French words I remember.

At the beginning of December, (Decembre, en frances) I had to go to CA for a week for some training with a new position I had accepted within my company.  I didn't really think I could travel with my rotary cutter and all of that so I just packed some scissors and fabric and the templates for these cute little wallets.  In the evening I would trace and cut and iron and before you know it I had about fifteen cut out and ready to sew.

Some of them made it all the way through the process and were given as gifts this past Christmas.  But there are a few that are still sitting on my sewing table.  They eyeball me every time I walk in the room.  They know I see them.  And I know, they know I see them.  But I pretend that I'm looking for something else and I move on.  Well, I have decided Favrier will be their month.  I will finish these little beauties.  They are actually Christmas 2014 gifts.  Two years ago I made sewing bags for all my knitting chicks.  Last year I made little utility bags that matched their sewing bags.  Now they will have these cute little wallets and then I think I am done with this line of gifts for these ladies.  They must all think I purchased an entire bolt of fabric for each of their bags a few years ago.
